AOTS Made A Funny: Achievement Whores

    By Jay Alan | February 20, 2008

G4’s AOTS is notorious for it’s ability to not make me laugh. Their, “humor” normally leaves me with a slightly sick feeling my stomach. The fact that this video actually made me chuckle is certainly worthy of a headline.

Achievement’s are a tough situation. They can help a game by giving you unique goals that you wouldn’t otherwise think of (Crackdown was a great example of this), but some people can take it way to seriously. We all know an Achievement Whore, and it can be a serious problem. If you’ve ever played a crap game like CSI, just for the points, you know what I mean. How do you all feel about achievements? I would love to know.

      That was a great sketch!

But come on, Jay, were the “anti-AOTS” comments really neccesary? I think it’s one of the most consistently entertaining and informative shows for the kind of crap that we all like. So what if it’s not “funny”. That’s not why I watch it! They keep us up to date on video games, comics, movies, tech gadgets…you name it. Name one other show on TV that does that!

Sorry, but that’s how I feel. They do cover the things we are interested in, but poorly. They’re constantly amateurish and childish in an niche that desperately needs to mature.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for amateurish, childish entertainment, but when a large corporate company hires models with no chemistry to pretend to be, “one of us” I can see it right away, and I don’t really enjoy it.

I have no doubt that there are people at AOTS that love the niche they are working on and are trying very hard to deliver a decent product, but it doesn’t work for me, and I don’t see anything wrong with sharing that opinion. If anything, letting a station like G4 (who desperately need to find out what they want to be) know what you like or don’t like about the network will only help them. That is, if they listen.
