Comic Book Writer Mark Millar’s Superman Returns Sequel Pitch

    By Jay Alan | October 23, 2007

Superman Returns was not loved by most people (although I personally did). The original writing team is not returning for the sequel and now comic book writer Mark Millar is pitching his idea for the next Superman movie:

I’ve been asked to work on half a dozen screenplays lately, but this is the only one I have ever truly wanted.

As most here know, I have literally hundreds of pages of notes and sketches just waiting for this opportunity. This would be my dream gig and, as a fan, I know exactly what this project needs to work. This has to be Superman for the 21st Century, keeping everything we adore, but starting from scratch and making the kids love it as much as the 30-somethings. I would honestly write this thing for free.

Personally I’m not a huge Mark Millar fan (although I know Etta is), I still think he could be the right guy for the job. We need someone who understands Superman as a character and comics as a medium. I think Millar could be that guy. I also hope WB can retain Singer for directing duties, as his directorial touchs, more than the story, are what made Superman Returns memorable.

I’d also like to add that I would also work on the Superman Returns sequel for free, I’m sure my fan base (both of them) would see the movie for sure if I were involved.

Actually, while I do enjoy some of Millar’s works (Ultimates, his Authority run, Wanted, and Civil War come to mind) he isn’t what I’d call a favorite writer. His work tends to run in what I’d call the summer blockbuster style, which in the right moments and mood are totally fun and right. He does however have a passion for Superman (his Superman Adventures work for DC’s animated line is widely lauded for it’s depiction of Superman as a character), and that is something I want the screenwriter to have. So why not, let him have a go. But as Silence says, I’d work for free to write the movie as well, but I will go further with my offer-Warner Brothers, I will pay you $1.00 American to write your Superman sequel.

Oh! Beaten at my own game!

I would pay one genuine Canadian Dollar to write the sequel, and we all know that’s far more valuable right now.

Well, just now (8:30am CST 10-24-07) I read Millar is out of the running (WB has concerns hiring a man who is Marvel exclusive getting attention on a DC franchise), I will go one step further in my offer-I will pay one pound to write this movie. We all know British writers write the best comics, now British money will help get me the job.
