Etta’s Entertainment Roundup
By Etta | November 1, 2007
Well, with so much film and tv news coming in, I figured a post to cover a chunk of it in a sitting might be in order.
Wanted
The trailer to Wanted went live the other day, and from what I can tell, it has absolutely lost it’s credibility with it’s fans. While Mark Millar can claim it’s a great adaption of it’s source material, the trailer clearly shows that it is not. I was a big advocate when this movie was announced, thinking it flush with potential in the form of a great up and coming director, interesting casting (I even was all for Angelina Jolie, even if she was miscast) and a what I assumed was going to be a story that stuck to it’s interesting source material. The trailer shows that all superhero/villain material is gone, changed to assassins and such, and the movie clearly wants to be the Matrix now, instead of what could have made it good in the first place.
Heroes Origins
According to both Variety and the Hollywood Reporter, the previously announced Heroes spin-off/replacement is not happening (at least, not when it was supposed to). Citing the coming writers strike in Hollywood and the declining numbers in viewers, NBC is pulling the series from it’s schedules. While I am behind the writers and their reasons for the strike, I am a bit disappointed that the show probably won’t be airing. I actually think that Heroes Origins had the potential to bring back some of what made Heroes first season entertaining; namely the potential in character pieces and the chance to put those characters back into the franchise. Not to mention the fun in having guest writer/directors like Kevin Smith and Eli Roth bring something new to the table.
Dollhouse
I’d never heard of this until this morning, but the reason it’s getting my attention is this: Eliza Dushku+Joss Whedon+interesting premise=awesome show (click here for much more at Variety ). What is already breaking my heart is the one thing to the equation that will equal canceled: Fox. While Fox is ordering 7 episodes and sounding optimistic, all I can remember is Firefly, the treatment of Buffy the Vampire Slayer by their network, genre shows they mishandled like the Tick, and so much more. I’ll be keeping track of this for the future, so expect more posts to come.
