The Ettatorial for the Week of 1-23-08

A medium-sized week of releases, with a couple of books good enough for picks of the week. The first, Young Avengers Presents #1/ Patriot, is a good example of providing new heroes to Marvel’s universe. Yes, while Patriot was introduced in Marvel’s excellent Young Avengers series, this mini-series is giving each of the members a spotlight issue and giving the characters a chance to shine individually. And under the pen of Brubaker, Patriot does indeed shine. Newer and younger readers really should see this book, because just maybe a new super-hero might just give them someone other than heroes who have been around for 40 to 70 years. The other book this week is Crime Bible Five Lessons of Blood #4. Rucka has done well with the mini-series, getting me to really believe in Renee Montoya as the Question. The mini has also showcased some good stories, and this one is no exception. While those who haven’t been following the story may not get certain references (it is a mini-series after all), the book still is easy to follow and better than a lot of the books being put out. So there you have it, your picks for the week, enjoy.
