Well, two books instantly stuck out at me this week, making themselves my picks without any true competition. The first, New Avengers: Illuminati #5, is going to be a must buy for anyone that wants to be in on Marvel’s upcoming Secret Invasion crossover. The book also ties up or ties into everything Marvel has been doing lately, from Civil War, to Planet Hulk, to books like New Avengers. Things are explained that definitely show the hows and whys of recent goings on at Marvel, and personally, I think they work out quite well. Not only that, but the book features what I would say are some of the strongest interior artwork by anyone in quite some time (credit goes to Mr. Jimmy Cheung). The second book was Criminal #10. Brubaker and Phillips masterpiece, Criminal ends it’s second storyarc here, and goes a long way to making “Lawless” a favorite story arc of mine. The heist is finally shown and performed, explanations abound on Tracy’s brother’s death, and we get a peek at just what a man like Tracy will do with his life. Awesome work, as always, reminding me just how much I love this series. So there you have it, your picks for this week. See you back here next week, when I have some new picks for you.
