The Ettatorial for the Week of 11-14-07

A pretty nice week of releases this week, with even getting in on the act.  Two picks this week from me, the first being Avengers:The Initiative #7.  First of all, this book is one for anyone who plans on buying Amazing once “Brand New Day” starts.  I won’t say why, but I guarantee anyone who had any issues with how was going to handle the changes of Civil War on Spidey will want this issue.  Secondly, AV: The Initiative is just good old fashioned story-telling in a shared universe.  Dan Slott is easily the man when it comes to obscure trivia, and when he uses it, he not only makes it work, but he makes it work better.  The second pick this week is a surprise (well, for me at least).  and the Outsiders #1 was originally not one I planned on purchasing.  But, I had a little extra in the wallet, and I was in the mood for one more book.  I’m glad I got it, because it’s Chuck Dixon’s return to writing characters, and I for one am thrilled.  Dixon writes action pieces as good as anyone, and here, he can go wild.  His character bits are fun, especially his Catwoman/Katanna bits, and I love his Metamorpho. The book retains the basic concept from the recently ended Outsiders book, but now has along to run the show just a bit differently.  The book is not something thats going to set the comics world on fire with debate or become a valued story, it’s a basic action/espionage get-to-know-you with superheroes, but it’s well done by both writer and artist, and sometimes, you just need a good action book.  So there you go, your picks of the week for this week.
