The Ettatorial for the Week of 12-12-07
By Etta | December 15, 2007
A medium sized week of releases this week, with a couple of books good enough to be picked for books of the week. The first pick is a surprising one, being that it’s part of a crossover/mini-series event I didn’t even purchase any of the other parts. Stormwatch PHD Armegeddon #1 was an excellent one-shot read, made even better with the fact it acted like an ending to the sadly-canceled-before-it’s-time Stormwatch PHD series. It also achieved something of a comic miracle, a story set in a post-apocalyptic future (Armageddon’s theme) that didn’t have the main character fighting, but instead learning. My second pick for the week was Suicide Squad: Raise the Flag #4. Maybe it’s just my love of books like Checkmate or my love of the idea behind the ‘Squad, but this book just seems to be intelligent and fun. Character moments of building the new Suicide Squad, mixed with some intrigue, mixed with some a good creative team just seems like a recipe for success. It’s not a break out book, but it’s a solid one from DC, whose track record lately has skewed much more toward bad than good. So there you go, your picks for the week. Enjoy, and I’ll see you back here next week.
