The Ettatorial for the Week of 12-19-07

A so-so week of releases, highlighted by my two picks. While both are deserving of your time and money, even they weren’t up to past weeks. The first, Batman and the Outsiders #3 makes it the third straight issue to receive the vote for book of the week. The series has started out strong, especially considering the last minute creative turnaround the book got prior to launch. This issue just continues the Dixon tradition of good comics, with character bits and action in exactly the right mix ( Though I gotta say, Remac? Really? thats gotta change) . The second pick for the week is Checkmate #21, which actually feels closer to an issue of Queen and Country (a definite plus) than most issues do. The book continues to showcase the more intellectual, non capes and tights aspects to DC’s universe, and as such, is a treat. Here’s hoping the series sales numbers stay profitable, and Rucka continues on even without his exclusive contract, because this book would be lost without him. So there you have it, your picks of the week, and we’ll see you back here next week (possibly on Sunday, as new releases are delayed until Friday because of the holiday week).
