The Ettatorial for the Week of 12-2-09

fallen+angel+omnibus

A super small week of releases this week for me, made smaller from the sell-out of Dark Avengers Annual #2.  Leaving me with just one book (Seige: The Cabal) that was good, but not exactly what I was planning on suggesting, I had to come up with a plan b.  So I came up with a trade paperback suggestion for you instead.

This week’s pick is the Fallen Angel Omnibus.   A massive volume, clocking in at 512 pages, this omnibus collects the first 21 issues of the critically-acclaimed IDW run of the series.  Creator Peter David’s story of the mysterious city of Bette Noire and it’s “protector”, this series is definitely for older audiences.  With a much more mature bent, the series delves into some deeper themes,  including religion.  The city of Bette Noire factors heavily into the story, as it is said to be the “city that shapes the world”, and it’s cast of characters that populate the city are as deep, dark, rich,  and intricate as the series itself.  The omnibus is not only well written, but the lush artwork, especially from painter JK Woodward, tells the story just beautifully.  The value on this omnibus is truly great, as the issues that are collected herein were $3.99 each, and the $24.99 price tag (less if you know where to look) makes it quite the deal.  Highly recommended, though for mature readers, this is something that those of you looking for something a bit deeper should check out.

There you go folks, that’s your pick for this week.  I’ll see you back here next week, same time, same channel.
