The Ettatorial for the Week of 5-13-09

A nice week of releases this week, highlighted for yours truly by my pick of the week.
Your pick of the week this week is Secret Six #9. Spinning out of the events of Battle for the Cowl (which I will disclose I’m not picking up), the issue isn’t so much a must read tie in to the event than it is a story that actually deals with the events in it’s own way. With the Batman currently out of the picture in Gotham, Catman, Bane, and Ragdoll visit the city on personal business out of respect for the Dark Knight. The issue is just perfect in showcasing these characters as something other than one-note “bad guys”, and actually goes so far as to make for me root for them instead of Nightwing once he appears. Full of action, humor, and the clever word play of Gail Simone, this has been one of my two favorite issues of the series thus far (the other being last month’s “Double Date”). As I’ve been preaching, this is the best book that DC currently is publishing, and it deserves the attention on par with what Green Lantern is getting but doesn’t. Go out and get this issue and you’ll understand just why Secret Six is a personal favorite here at the Ettatorial.
There you have it folks, your pick for the week. We’ll see you back here next week, same time, same channel.

I agree with you, Cory. This comic is about one of the only things DC is doing right. In a market where just about every single book is about superheroes, it’s nice to read about the characters that often are more interesting…the superVILLAINS. Hopefully this title gets more exposure so it can continue.
