Del Toro to Direct Hobbit Movies

In what is looking to be a positive for Tolkien fans, Guillermo del Toro is said to have officially been announced for the upcoming 2 Hobbit movies.  While speculation had Del Toro and “Spider-Man” director Sam Raimi both attached, Del Toro was announced as officially having the job in France at a premiere of a Spanish horror movie he produced.  I personally am glad of this choice, after seeing how beautiful “Pan’s Labyrith” was, and think that if Peter Jackson can’t do it, this is the perfect alternative.  The only questionable thing I can find about this is just what the second movie is supposed to entail, as I think that while the Hobbit will be actually be the best movie, a second movie seems unnecessary.  I’m just hoping it will live up to the rest of the material, as Lord of the Rings was truly an achievement in film.

While I’ve not been a fan of Peter Jacksons work since Return of the King, it’s a shame he isn’t returning for The Hobbit. It’s also a shame it’s going to be two films, this just doesn’t make sense beyond being a money grab. It’s also a shame that it’s Mr. Del Toro directing, his films have never once grabbed me, I know many people love them, but for some reason his films always feel stale and lifeless and bore me. On the up side his name makes me think of Del Taco, and I love tacos!

I guess I’m highly un-excited for the Hobbit movie, which is sad, as it’s my favorite of Mr. Tolkien’s writings.
