What a Day…

iphone.pngWhat a day I had yesterday, first my DVD player broke, then Apple announced a shit ton of new iPods and dropped the price on the iPhone $200, on the very day mine was set to arrive. I immediately called Apple and the friendly support guy I talked to refunded me the difference. Thank god. I really, really feel for those people who bought an iPhone at launch and basically had to pay a $200 early adopter tax, not cool, Apple, not cool. I think everyone would be wise, from now on, to not buy any new Apple products for at least 90 days, I know I’ll be very careful in the future.

Apple really needs to do something for these people, these are the people that love and support Apple products like no other, and Jobs and Co. basically took ‘em up the back door with no lube (how’s that for you’re daily disgusting metaphor?).

My problems weren’t over either though, I still had to get my iPhone activated, not an easy process. After hours and hours of trying many different (unsuccessful) methods, I finally used iNdependence to activate with my GoPhone prepaid sim (which I got from AT&T for 10 bucks, with a phone, charger, car charger, and case, AT&T blew me away with that much free stuff to go with a $10 phone), since I refuse to sign a contract and I don’t use the phone that much. I highly recommend this method, it will save you a ton of time if you use a Mac (Windows users are just out of luck, iBrickr is your best option, and it’s not great).

I was also able to get SSH and FTP working with iNdependence with no problem. This allowed me to use iFuntastic 2 (which is hard as hell to find now, you can still download it from Hack the iPhone) to fix my carrier logo (from AT&T to pwn3d, hilarious!). Stay away from iFuntastic 3, it was just buggy as hell and a waste of time.

Now I’m all set, everything works great, only with AT&T. Now if T-Mobile would get off their asses and move into the Cedar Rapids area, all would be right with the world.
