Activate iPhone, Without the Phone, Why?
The infamous DVD John (the hacker we all love for originally breaking the encryption on DVD’s) has discovered a way to activate the iPhone without having to have phone service from AT&T:
The headline kind of says it all: a little hex editing of iTunes, a little hostfile hacking, a little program called Phone Activation Server v1.0, and you’re on your way to an AT&T service free iPhone, friend. That’s right, Jon, knock that toxic AT&T-tied iPod-coffee out of Steve’s hand.
I really can’t understand why you would buy an iPhone if you have no interest in the actual phone. In 6-8 months Apple will release a 6th Gen iPod with all these features, minus the phone, probably with a larger hard drive and for half the cost. So my question remains: Why?
