The CIA, Jack Kirby, Fake Movies, Hostages-This Story Has it All!
I was recently reading some of Wired Magazine’s online content when I happened on the most interesting article. I’d never heard about it before, but seeing as it happened the year I was born, I could understand. I was sucked in, as the story unfolded and began to sound like the perfect Hollywood movie (hell, it involved Hollywood). Let me give you the cliff notes version, and if that doesn’t make you want to read the full article, nothing will. It seems that in 1979, the CIA needed to get some hostages out of Iran. They used a fake sci-fi Hollywood movie, with Jack Kirby providing conceptual artwork, a fake production company, and more tricks than Mission Impossible, Alias, and James Bond to accomplish saving 6 American lives. This is just the best story-I demand to see the Major Motion Picture of it!
